class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>There are many ways to use mathematics in sculpture, ranging from straightforward renditions of geometric solids to illustrations of complex topics in calculus and topology to fanciful elaborations of symmetric forms.\u00a0 This course will explore the uses of mathematics in the construction of sculpture in several media, potentially including wood, metal, paper, plastic, and clay.\u00a0 We will probably do some 3D printing and\/or laser-cutting as well as more traditional techniques.\u00a0 Our goal is for students to use their existing mathematical or artistic knowledge to reinforce new artistic (and perhaps mathematical) experiences.<\/p>\n<p>The class will be primarily based on projects; most of the time will be making things rather than lectures.
