{"id":90,"date":"2016-08-13T16:55:11","date_gmt":"2016-08-13T16:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.rose-hulman.edu\/rader\/?page_id=90"},"modified":"2017-06-12T18:08:10","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T18:08:10","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.rose-hulman.edu\/rader\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My research has focused on the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quadratic 0-1 Knapsack problems<\/li>\n<li>Nonlinear 0-1 optimization<\/li>\n<li>Scheduling problems, especially exam scheduling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recent work involves the final exam scheduling for Rose-Hulman each term. \u00a0This problem is different from the traditional exam scheduling problem because:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>All sections of the same course have their exam at the same time<\/li>\n<li>Room availability is limited<\/li>\n<li>The number of time slots is reduced<\/li>\n<li>The objectives for a schedule involves\n<ol>\n<li>minimizing the number of students with multiple exams scheduled at the same time<\/li>\n<li>minimizing the number of students with exams occurring in back-to-back time slots<\/li>\n<li>minimizing the number of students with exams occurring in 3 or more consecutive time slots.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Recent papers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Recommendations for an Undergraduate Curriculum at the Interface of Operations Research and Computer Science&#8221;; Joint work with J.
