I am an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. My principal mathematical interests are at the interplay of geometry and physics. Currently, I am interested in modelling the shape of baked goods. This entails the use of partial differential equations, calculus of variations, continuum mechanics, and differential geometry to describe the baking process, but my fundamental interest is in why bread (and other baked goods – cakes, cookies, muffins, cupcakes, et cetera) attains their distinctive shapes.
