Meet Our Mentors

John Aidoo, PhD – Faculty Advisor

Dr. Adioo is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rose-Hulman, specializing in structures.  He has been involved with EWB-RHIT for close to two decades, traveling abroad with the club on many occasions especially to his home country of Ghana, and providing technical support on many of our projects.

 

John Gardner, PhD – Faculty Advisor

Dr. Gardner is a Professor of Spanish at Rose-Hulman.  He has been involved with the club for well over a decade, traveling abroad on the majority of our trips to Spanish speaking countries where he serves as our translator.  He very much involved in guiding the club on a day-to-day basis, supporting the students in whatever way is needed.

 

 

Kyle Kershaw, PE, PhD – Faculty Mentor

Dr. Kershaw is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and the Roland E. Hutchins Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering at Rose-Hulman.  He has been involved with the club for close to a decade, serving as a valuable resource both when traveling and on geotechnical related topics.

 

Jed Holt, PE – Responsible Engineer In Charge

Jed is a 1970 graduate of Rose-Hulman and serves as our Responsible Engineer in Charge, meaning that he must sign off on all of our designs.  He has been involved with the chapter for close to a decade and has been an extremely valuable resource both when traveling and providing technical expertise both on the engineering and construction side of things.  He built a career in the construction industry working his way up to becoming the President of Bowen Engineering.

Michelle Black, PE, – Technical Mentor

Michelle is one of our technical mentors that specializes in seismic design. She has assisted extensively with the design of our seismic force restraining system. She is a senior project engineer at Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers.

Thomas Frankie, PhD, PE, SE – Technical Mentor

Dr. Frankie joined our team in 2022 as a Technical Mentor for our chapter.  He is a senior associate at Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. with an extensive skill set in nondestructive evaluation, structural analysis, and repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures.

 

Jacquelyn Miller, EIT – Technical Mentor

Jacquelyn is a 2020 graduate of Rose-Hulman with a degree in civil engineering.  After being extensively involved as a student serving in numerous leadership roles, she recently rejoined the team as a mentor to share her expertise in structures.  She currently works as a design engineer at Schaefer.

 

Liam Sawyer, PE – Technical Mentor

Liam is one of our technical mentors.  He has been involved with the club for close to five years, both traveling with us, and providing us technical guidance on our projects.  He is a project manager at Kimley Horn where his specially is Land Development.

 

Roger Ward, PE – Technical Mentor

Roger is a 1971 Rose-Hulman graduate.  He is very extensively involved in Engineers Without Borders as a member of the Indianapolis Professional chapter, as a mentor for several student chapters, and is an International Community Program Reviewer.  He has been involved with our chapter for well over a decade serving as the Responsible Engineer In Charge on our last project. Professionally Roger is the CEO of Roger Ward Engineering, Inc.
